New York style Urban Cookhouse to open in Manchester creating 35 jobs

A new startup, Urban Cookhouse, will open in Manchester city centre creating 35 jobs.

Styled on a New York loft, the restaurant, bar and late-night lounge is located on Princess Street inside of a former shipping warehouse.

The business is opening following a six-figure funding deal from NatWest and the bank’s asset finance partner Lombard.

The startup has been created by 27-year-old Tim Coulston, managing director of Violet Hospitality.

Salford-resident Tim has been working in the food and drink industry since he was 16 and has always wanted to create and operate his own brands.

Tim said: “Manchester has a vibrant restaurant scene but Urban Cookhouse will be the first of its kind in the city.

“The stylish urban interiors reflect that of a New York loft and create an atmospheric dynamic dining experience alongside our eclectic range of dishes.”

Items on the menu include crispy cod cheeks with Asian slaw, chilli and lime to start, whiskey chicken and treacle cured bacon chop as mains, and a caramel trio of honeycombe, crème brulee and liquid popcorn with a caramel froth.

In addition to Urban Cookhouse, Violet Hospitality is looking to develop two more restaurant concepts by 2020.
