Taylor&Emmet Apprentices Embark on Legal Career

Sheffield’s Taylor&Emmet LLP is marking National Apprenticeship Week by rewarding its youngest members of staff with fulltime positions.

Both of the solicitors’ existing apprentices are taking up permanent roles as legal secretaries, after successfully completing their training.

School leavers, Saskia Bex (17) and Sophie Clithero (19), became Taylor&Emmet’s first intake of apprentices in September 2013. They now join the personal injury and employment law teams respectively, having gained a Chartered Institute of Legal Executives certificate for legal secretaries, the equivalent of a National Vocational Qualification level three.

Taylor&Emmet was one of the first South Yorkshire solicitors to offer legal secretarial apprenticeships through training provider, BPP Law School in Leeds. Saskia and Sophie have studied for their qualifications while spending time with various departments, developing core skills, such as proof reading and diary management and learning to communicate effectively, respect confidentiality and prioritise work.

Sharna Poxon, Taylor&Emmet’s human resources manager, said: “Both girls are mature, professional additions to the team and are relishing the chance to take on additional responsibility and new challenges as permanent members of staff. They work really hard and will continue to learn whilst gaining knowledge of a professional services environment that will be essential to their future careers.”

Taylor&Emmet is now in the process of recruiting another school leaver to start in the summer. For more information about its commitment to apprenticeships, telephone (0114) 218 4000, visit www.tayloremmet.co.uk or follow the firm on Twitter @tayloremmet.
