Intermarketing Agency split triathlon for Sue Ryder
21 employees from Intermarketing Agency are set to cycle, swim and run the equivalent of length of the UK, 625 miles, between them to fundraise for Sue Ryder Yorkshire hospices Manorlands and Wheatfields.
The split triathlon event will take place in one day on Saturday 28th March 2015 with six swimmers, seven cyclists and eight runners all individually challenging themselves to complete a set number of miles to raise £5,000 for the charity.
The cyclists will each ride 70 miles between Scarborough and Leeds, the swimmers are each taking on 2.5 miles (160 x 25 metre lengths) and the runners are tackling 15 miles each.
Most of the team have never taken on such a big challenge before so it will be a step up from their usual jogging or cycling round the park or a quick dip in the pool. Some had never done any exercise at all before throwing themselves into training a couple of months ago.
The staff at Intermarketing Agency voted for Sue Ryder Yorkshire to be their charity partner for the financial year 2014/15 and with Sue Ryder’s Wheatfields hospice neighbouring the agency’s Headingley office, motivation to support their work is high. Intermarketing’s Managing Partners, Jamie Allan and Steve Sowden are both taking part.
Jamie Allan said: “I think that Sue Ryder has an affinity for a lot of us. Caring for patients and their families is something that strikes home with many people. Some of our staff have had personal experiences of Sue Ryder’s Wheatfields Hospice and they want to do something to help. It’s inspiring how much of a challenge the staff are taking, each of the distances are very hard, but we’re all determined to succeed.”
Charlotte Stern, Senior Hospice Fundraiser, said ’We are so excited that Intermarketing Agency has chosen to raise funds for Sue Ryder. In Yorkshire alone Sue Ryder provides 2 hospices; Wheatfields and Manorlands. 1 neurological care centre; Holme Hall and a community care scheme based in Doncaster. In Yorkshire Sue Ryder helps 5308 people each year and it costs over £9 million every year to run these services.
The £5000 that Intermarketing Agency plan to raise will be enough to fund 625 hours of incredible care for someone who really needs it. It’s amazing they have chosen to bake, race, swim run and cycle to raise much needed funds for the hospices.“
