One of the North East’s biggest tourist attractions is taking visitors around the world, one dish at a time.

National Glass Centre, Sunderland, which celebrates the heritage of glass making in the city, has launched a new spring menu at its contemporary Brasserie.

The menu, designed by chefs from 1879 Event Management, includes an extended range of dishes from around the world, such as an Italian-style tortellini with asparagus and peas, and chicken Caesar salad, which is believed to have originated in Mexico.

Despite its international flair, the menu utilises ingredients sourced within 50 miles of the Brasserie, adding extra authenticity to its British-inspired additions, including fish cakes served with buttered spinach, peas and fries, and haggis Scotch egg and chips.

Steve Welch, Executive Head Chef at 1879 Events Management, which also manages catering for private events at National Glass Centre said: “Diners have always enjoyed the wide range of dishes available at the Brasserie, including those inspired by food from around the world.

“The new spring menu has been specifically designed to extend this even further, with dishes such as tortellini and Caesar salad sitting well alongside favourites including traditional fish and chips and our signature Glassworkers molten beef sandwich.”

National Glass Centre’s Spring Menu, which also includes a range of breakfasts, light bites, sandwiches, burgers, pastries and cakes, will be served daily from 10am until 5pm.

A separate children’s menu is also available during these times, with afternoon tea from 2.30pm until 4.30pm and Sunday lunch offered weekly from noon until 2.30pm.
