Take a Taste Tour along gastronomy lane
Wayne Halton, MHW PR director
What do you do that’s different when you’re looking to entertain clients or a group of work colleagues?
Imagine a food journey that takes you from the surf and turf of Northumberland to the rolling hills of Italy and finally to the sweet delights of Europe.
All that in one night; in the heart of Newcastle; and in the comfort of fabulous surroundings.
Anyone who loves a night out with great food and the company of corporate clients or work colleagues can savour a unique Taste Tour in the city.
Diners can enjoy a fabulous three course experience by visiting three very different restaurants on Newcastle’s historic Quayside. It’s a quirky idea that gets the conversation flowing – along with the wine!
Top regional chef and restaurateur Terry Laybourne has put together an exciting package of food and drink to tickle and tantalise the palates of the most discerning of foodies.
You can visit three of his most popular venues – The Broad Chare, Caffe Vivo and Café 21 – to pick and savour a memorable three-course dinner with drinks – all for the price of £40 per person. It’s a dinner with a difference, a journey through a feast of gastronomic treats.
The Taste Tour begins with a pint of beer or glass of wine at The Broad Chare pub where you have the pick of a range of tasty bar snacks. These are ‘bar snacks with attitude’; generous, full of flavour – hand-raised pork pies, Scotch eggs, cauliflower fritters, crispy pigs ears and deep fried monkfish cheeks.
The Broad Chare is no ordinary pub; it recently won the prestigious Editor Award for Best New Entry and was also listed 20th in the 2015 Top 50 UK Pubs guide, based on ratings by customer feedback. These are just the latest accolades for the Newcastle pub, a creative partnership with Live Theatre, who helped develop the name and the house ale, The Writer’s Block. It’s also one of a few North East venues to have a Michelin Bib Gourmand.
The next stage of the Taste Tour is a short walk to the nearby Caffe Vivo, where you can select an authentic Italian main course with a glass of wine. This buzzing restaurant is all about rustic food with big flavours. Conviviality and ease are on the menu at this lively restaurant, which has also received a Michelin Bib Gourmand.
Whether it’s a tasty bowl of pasta, seasonal fish of the day or an antipasto sharing board – meat based or vegetarian – there’s a main to suit all tastes.
The final part of the Taste Tour is a few minutes’ walk across Trinity Gardens, where a tempting dessert and coffee awaits you at Terry Laybourne’s flagship restaurant, Café 21.
There’s crème brulee; my personal favourite, the Palet d’Or of Wild Bolivian Chocolate with Toasted Almond Ice Cream; or you and your clients can just knock yourselves out with the impressive Knickerbocker Glory.
This is a city centre restaurant bursting with style and buzz and a culinary reputation to match. The vibe is easy and unhurried; it’s ideal for a party of friends or for a corporate hospitality event. It’s chic, it’s sharp but most importantly it’s fun. It’s a great way to end a casual night of networking – or maybe the start of further banter over a few more bottles of vino!
Enjoy the journey – try this unique Taste Tour for yourself or with some clients. Order your vouchers online by visiting www.cafetwentyone.co.uk or, if you’re organising a large party, please call 0191 222 0755.
