Further devolution as Manchester calls for power over stamp duty
The chief executive of Manchester city council has called on Westminster to let regions set their own stamp duty rates.
According to the Times, Sir Howard Bernstein said “Why not delegate the responsibility for stamp duty to different places to see whether or not the stamp duty machine can be made more responsive to different parts of the country?”
The news comes after the announcement that Greater Manchester would be responsible for its own health budget.
