Healthy NHS Jobs Outcomes for Preston’s College Learners

A successful pre-employment training course in healthcare at Preston’s College has resulted in permanent job offers within the NHS for 10 learners.

The college’s dedication to providing ‘work ready’ learners and courses that develop skills currently in demand across various industries, has enabled the growth of partnerships with a number of high profile local employers.

Building on the relationship between Preston’s College dedicated Workforce Team and Skills for Health (part of the NHS), 10 of the 12 learners completing work placements across Royal Preston and Chorley Hospital obtained jobs within the NHS.

Twenty-two students were referred for interviews with the NHS and Preston’s College, with 15 being accepted onto a four week pre-employment programme provided by Preston’s College.

Once completed, the students progressed onto a 10 week work placement in a range of entry-level roles including admin, cleaning and portering within the NHS.

Darren Kellett, employability co-ordinator at Preston’s College, said: “Our skills-based training programmes not only create the most employable learner, but equips them with the experience desired by employers and the confidence they need to quickly take to their new roles in the workplace.

“The high percentage of job and interview offers for our students on this course demonstrates their ‘work ready’ skills and aptitude for making a positive contribution to employers in the healthcare sector.”

Jackie Higham, widening participation manager at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, added: “We were impressed by the calibre of the learners on this course and the resulting job outcomes and interview referrals are testament to the success of the College’s approach. As a trust we work hard to provide placements that will help students gain vital employability skills to help them become successful professionals. “
