Law firm Gorvins announces charity partnership
Stockport based Gorvins Solicitors has teamed up with national charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) to support them in a year-long programme of fund-raising activities throughout 2015.
The charity, which is commemorating its 20th anniversary this year, is fundraising to increase awareness of young sudden cardiac death (YSDC) and the shocking statistic that at least 12 young people die of undiagnosed heart conditions every week in the UK.
Events have already been scheduled to help CRY, including the firm’s annual summer Five-a-Side Football tournament and the GAFTA’s (Gorvins’ movie themed quiz night). Employees are also encouraged to volunteer in fund-raising activities to support the charity.
To follow the firm’s Corporate Social Responsibility strategy, the 12-month partnership is centred on one equity partner embarking on the ‘Challenge of a Lifetime’.
This year will therefore see Andrew Curwen (pictured), Head of the Corporate & Commercial team, making a significant contribution to CRY.
Managing Partner Lorraine Lockie set the standard in 2014 with a gruelling cycle ride across Tanzania in support of Genesis Research Trust.
Andrew said: “It’s great to be part of an initiative which will see a fantastic amount of money raised for a worthwhile cause. We aim to inspire our employees and partners to get involved and make a difference.”
CRY continues to support young people diagnosed with potentially life-threatening cardiac conditions and offers bereavement support to families affected by it. Alison Cox MBE, Chief Executive and Founder of CRY comments: “2015 is a very special year for CRY as we mark our 20th anniversary and celebrate our many milestones and achievements.
“Since we launched in 1995, CRY has gone from strength to strength, thanks to the generosity and fundraising efforts of the public, families who have been affected by sudden death and many local businesses and organisations across the UK. As a result we have been able to develop and grow a range of specialist services, from screening and research through to our network of specialist bereavement support.
“Therefore, on behalf of all of us at CRY, I would like to say a huge “thank you” to the team at Gorvins Solicitors for choosing us as one of their beneficiaries and for recognising the importance of our work in helping to save young lives.”
Paul Longmire, Marketing Manager and Head of the Firm’s Charity’s Committee said: “We are very proud of our flourishing CSR programme and are excited to be involved in a wide range of volunteering and other activities to raise both money and the profiles of our chosen charities within the region and amongst the clients we work with.”
The firm is also supporting local Stockport charity Beechwood Cancer Care’s Silver Wing Appeal which marks its 25th anniversary this year.
