Investment in new environmentally friendly vehicles

A Cumbrian waste management and recycling company has invested around £1.5 million in a new fleet of environmentally-friendly vehicles.

Cumbria Waste Group (CWG) has bought a dozen new vehicles, ranging from 26-tonne commercial waste collection wagons through to lorries that can deliver and collect skips.

The vehicles are operating across the areas where CWG provides general waste and recycling services, including Carlisle, Kendal, Penrith, Workington, Whitehaven, Barrow and the Lake District.

As well as being fitted with state-of-the-art technology, including enhanced safety features, the vehicles are more fuel efficient and will produce fewer carbon emissions.

Mike Bareham, Managing Director of Cumbria Waste Group, said: “The investment in these range of vehicles means we now have the most up-to-date fleet in Cumbria.

“As a company working in the waste sector, we are very much aware of our responsibilities and having vehicles that are more environmentally friendly is very important to us.

“We all have a duty to lower our carbon footprint and through our new vehicles, recycling operations and landfill diversion strategy, we are continually attempting to minimise the impact we have on the environment.

“This investment in new vehicles will also enable us to continue providing a high quality service to our customers across the county.”
