RDM boss welcomes £100m driverless vehicle boost

Coventry-based RDM Group is leading the way when it comes to driverless vehicles after designing and building the “Lutz” pods, set to be used on the streets of Milton Keynes this summer.

The company has also been invited to take part in UK Autodrive, a consortium of local authorities, academic institutions and advanced engineering businesses. The aim of the £19.2m project is to establish the UK as a global hub for the development of autonomous vehicle technologies and to integrate driverless vehicles into existing urban environments by trialing them in two major UK cities.

David Keene, CEO, welcomed the budget announcement of further funding:

“I’m delighted that the Government is investing another £100m into the development of driverless vehicle technology.

“The UK is currently leading the way, but we have to move quickly and ensure we maintain that position by training the best engineers, encouraging innovative collaborations and ensuring we turn the vision into reality.

“Lutz will be a great showcase of what we have achieved with driverless cars to date. However, it is just the start and there’s plenty more to come.”
