Generator Studios welcomes real Gem

Newcastle-based Generator Studios has welcomed its second new tenant in as many weeks as North East recruitment company, Gem Partnership, agrees a 10 year lease.

Formerly based at Scottish Provident House on Mosley Street, Newcastle, Gem Partnership - which has regional offices in Peterlee and Newton Aycliffe - will relocate its headquarters to Generator Studios on Trafalgar Street later this month, where it will take 3,446 sq. ft. of office space to house its 25 Newcastle-based staff.

Lee Rankin, Managing Director at Gem Partnership said: “We are delighted to announce our Head Office move to Generator Studios, and are looking forward to being based in such a modern and collaborative working environment.

“Commercial office space like that found at Generator Studios is very hard to come by in Newcastle city centre, and we assessed the city market extensively before deciding on Generator. We are delighted to make this move and benefit from all the services you’d expect from a first class office environment.”

Jamie Mableson, Senior Development Manager at Metnor Property Group, owner of Generator Studios, said: “This is the second tenant we’ve acquired in recent weeks and follows swiftly on from the announcement of our successful upgrade of the IT infrastructure at Generator, providing 1Gb superfast broadband and excellent data connectivity.”

Originally developed in 2001, Generator Studios is a Grade II listed building which, following extensive renovations, became an instant hub for digital and creative industries, as well as engineering, architecture and technology businesses.

“One of the things that drew us to Generator Studios was the company that we would keep there, which represented a great fit with our business and the sectors we operate in,” continued Rankin.

Other tenants include: Hedgehog Lab, B3 Architects, Black & White Engineering, Real Time Claims, Low Carbon Lighting and Foster Findlay Associates, along with Nathaniel Litchfield and Gardiner Richardson.

Aidan Baker, Director of Agency at BNP Paribas Real Estate who brokered the deal added: “Generator continues to represent an attractive offer for occupiers in Newcastle, and the two recent deals indicate there are clear signs of an improving property market, where we’re experiencing an uplift in demand which has led to a number of deals this quarter.”

In February 2015 London-based branding, website and apps company, TheTin, also opened its doors at Generator Studios.

There are a limited number of studios remaining at Generator, with spaces ranging from 500 to 3,600 sq. ft.

Sanderson Weatherall was joint agent with BNP Paribas Real Estate to broker the deal and law firm, Sintons, advised on the legal aspects of the deal for Metnor.

Tom Wills, Associate in the Real Estate department at Sintons, said: “This is a really exciting period for the rental office market in Newcastle, and we have seen a significant increase in the movement in this sector. Sintons is very pleased to be able to continue to support Metnor with its legal requirements at Generator.”
