Mechan Presents Cheque to Launch Charity Support
Sheffield rail depot equipment specialist, Mechan, is on track for a record year of fundraising for its annual charity, kicking off with an initial donation of £750.
The manufacturer has selected Railway Children as its 2015 charity and will be organising a number of events throughout the year to raise funds and awareness of the organisation.
Mechan’s cheque comprises funds contributed in lieu of Christmas cards, plus the value of a new iPhone 6, which was offered to customers as a prize for completing a survey about the company. The winner, who wished to remain anonymous, requested the equivalent money was donated to a charity of the firm’s choice, instead of accepting the gift.
Customers worldwide responded positively to the survey, with more than 90% rating Mechan as good or excellent for competence, efficiency and attention to detail. A further 81% said they would be very likely to recommend the firm to colleagues.
Richard Carr, Mechan’s managing director, said: “We are very grateful to our prize winner for providing such a boost to this first year of fundraising for Railway Children. The charity is hugely respected among the rail sector and we look forward to engaging with colleagues, friends and suppliers to carry this momentum through the months ahead.”
Railway Children works in the UK, India and East Africa, providing protection and opportunity to children forced to leave home due to poverty, abuse or neglect. It meets the immediate needs of those at risk, helps communities understand the issues and lobbies policy makers.
Dave Ellis, corporate partnerships manager for Railway Children, added: “I would like to thank Mechan for this kind donation and for showing such an interest in our work. The firm counts key rail operators, maintenance contractors and train builders among its client base and I have no doubt its dedicated team will be excellent ambassadors for our organisation.”
