RDA completes refurbishment at Gateshead marine coatings company

Restaurant Design Associates (RDA), a North East design, supply and installation company, has completed an extensive refurbishment programme at Gateshead-based paint company AkzoNobel.

The AkzoNobel site specialises in the production of marine and protective coatings, where its products have been used to coat such famous landmarks as The Sage Gateshead, the Millennium Bridge and the London Eye.

RDA was tasked with stripping out the Felling site’s entire servery, seating and lobby areas and installing new flooring, ceiling, decoration, counters, equipment and furniture, as well as managing mechanical and electrical services.

The team also fitted a new entrance area, which sees up to 45,000 people pass through it every year. The re-fit included automatic doors, rendered surround and a glazed entrance canopy which was specially designed to match the other areas on the site.

Additionally, RDA carried out a toilet fit-out of new sanitaryware, vanity units, cubicles, IPS panels and Dyson Airblade dryers.

Stephen Rochester, quantity surveyor at RDA, said: “The Felling site of AkzoNobel is based mere minutes away from our Hebburn offices, but its work extends far beyond the North East, to a diverse range of customers across the globe.

“We welcomed the opportunity to work with a local team to improve the facilities for such a well established company in the region.”

RDA was set up in South Tyneside in 2007 by directors Roy and Judith Addyman and has since grown into one of the UK’s leading design and installation companies, specialising in the catering, hospitality and retail industries. The firm also counts Crown Paints and Procter and Gamble amongst its past clients.
