Amble Harbour Village opens Saturday 28th March!

The town of Amble in Northumberland – famed as Britain’s friendliest port and a recent star of the hit ITV1 show ‘More Tales from Northumberland’ with Robson Green – is the home of a major new development combining a celebration of Northumberland’s rich seafood with a raft of new arts, crafts and gift shops.

The Amble Harbour Village opens for business on Saturday, March 28, with a wealth of things to do and see. Newcastle University’s research boat The Princess Royal will be part of a flotilla of action with the inshore lifeboat and a locally built skiff. The coastline’s wild past of Viking raids will be celebrated with a Viking camp in the town square, families can get in touch with their inner pirates and follow a treasure trail, plus there is face and pottery painting for the kids.

The Seafood Centre is at the heart of the Harbour Village on a harbour front that is benefitting from redevelopment by both public and private investment. The Centre will showcase the superb wild spoils of the sea and foodies will be treated to some fresh ideas in a cookery demonstration. The new Seafood Centre and seafood brokers will play an important role in supporting Amble’s fishing trade and introducing more people to the fabulous seafood native to this stunning coastline.

“Northumberland is famed for its wild spirit, and we have that in spades in Amble – whether you’re looking for an action-packed break, a seaside day out or want to find out more about this heritage-steeped coastline.”

The historic port sits at the estuary of the River Coquet, between the Warkworth and Hauxley Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and boasts amazing views. Amble is the perfect spot whether you enjoy the adrenaline of surfing and kayaking or prefer a more sedate sailing or fishing trip. Amble Marina offers berths for visiting yachts and motor cruisers, or you can book a sea trip from the harbour.

Away from the waves, the town retains its traditional high street, where there is a good range of independent food, clothing and gift shops. No visit to the seaside is complete without a serving of fish and chips, plus you’ll find some top quality restaurants and cafes including renowned local ice cream boutique, Spurreli. A busy Sunday market is held every week on the quayside, next to the new Harbour Village, and there’s a swimming pool and outdoor play areas for the kids. For those who want to get up close and personal with wild Northumberland, Amble is the ideal starting point for walking, cycling and bird watching breaks.

Amble has lined up activities throughout spring and summer. The Amble Harbour Village opening will be followed by the week-long Puffin Festival during the half-term holidays from May 25 – 31; a new Harbour Week is being organised in August and the town’s Lifeboat Day takes place on August 30.
