£8.1m funding boost for Kings College London

Following its successful submission to the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF), Kings College London is set to gain the largest increase in research funding in cash terms.

The REF results, announced in December last year saw Kings rise to 6th place nationally in the ‘power’ ranking and 7th for quality.

King’s quality related funding has increased by £6.6m which is directly tied to its REF results.

The total research funding allocation for 2015-2016 is £8.1m, an increase of 13.9%.

Professor Edward Byrne AC, President and Principal of King’s said: ‘I am delighted that King’s overall success in the 2014 REF has translated into a substantial increase in our research funding allocation.

“This boost will allow us to continue to invest in the best international research talent, world-class research facilities and support for the next generation of researchers.’

King’s College London is one of the top 20 universities in the world and has more than 26,500 students.

The university currently is in its second phase of a £1 billion redevelopment programme.
