Doncaster set to receive business boost from airport’s Enterprise Zone

Doncaster businesses are ready to take off after the announcement of the newly designated 10 hectare Enterprise Zone.

The Enterprise Zone, based at Doncaster Sheffield Airport, is aiming to attract new business and inward investment into Doncaster, offering a stronger motive for investors and companies to select the town as a business destination.

Due to the Enterprise Zone’s location, at the airport, there are huge opportunities to create new jobs and economic growth in Doncaster, transform the south of Doncaster and be the driving force for growth across the borough and the Sheffield City Region.

Furthermore, the Enterprise Zone status gives businesses and investors access to significant Government tax incentives by locating in the designated area at the airport.

Businesses in the manufacturing and engineering sectors will find this particularly useful as they are being proactively encouraged into the region. It will also encourage further investment in the site and be supportive to the new infrastructure investment that is already going into Doncaster.

Steve Gill, managing director of Doncaster Sheffield Airport, said: “The teams are working with engineering and aerospace companies to showcase the benefits of relocation to Doncaster. Along with major infrastructure projects like the transformational FARRRS motorway link road, the Enterprise Zone will help the airport to grow and entice new industry and jobs to the area.

“Working closely with the Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership we aim to exploit all opportunities to develop the Enterprise Zone to build a strong and diverse local and regional economy.

“The airport is a magnet for inward investment; and FARRRS together with the new Enterprise Zone will enhance Doncaster’s logistics capacity and expertise and help the local economy to flourish.

Chris Dungworth, investment manager for Business Doncaster, said: “We are currently seeing a lot of interest in Doncaster as an investment location.

“Projects such as the CREATE HS2 rail college and the iPort at Rossington have significantly raised our national profile. Having an enterprise zone at the Airport really enhances our offer to investors looking for new sites and premises. It provides an incentive to businesses to locate on one of the city regions most prestigious business parks and helps up compete with larger cities for new investment and jobs.”
