Is Your Website Ready for Google’s Changes?
If you didn’t already know, Google have announced that on April 21st 2015 that they will penalise websites that are not mobile-friendly.
The search engine company is notorious for carrying out ‘slaps’ on websites that they feel are not fit for purpose. A ‘slap’ is where an algorithmic change in the Google Search Engine can make a website virtually disappear from the search engine results pages (serps). Many businesses have suffered huge ranking and traffic losses after a Google update, so it is very important that businesses prepare themselves in good time for this April 21 update.
Lots of companies think they are ready for this update, but it may not be that simple - even if your site displays well on a mobile phone. Before you decide it’s all good and you don’t have anything to worry about, check your site with this tool: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/ This is NOT the same tool that Google refers you to in Webmaster Tools, but it is more accurate in terms of what’s coming on April 21st and will give you a good indicator of what improvements you may have to make to avoid the dreaded slap.
Of course the best solution is to seek professional help to ensure that you tick all the boxes, but you do need to take action today to keep in line with the Google changes and maintain your website’s good standing with Google.
