£25m arts centre to open in Manchester

A £25m arts centre is to open in Manchester city centre.

The venue, called Home, will have theatres, cinema screens, galleries and a bar and restaurant.

It is formed from a merger of Manchester’s Cornerhouse and the Library Theatre Company.

There will be a launch party over the last bank holiday weekend in May which will showcase Manchester talent as well as welcome people to the venue.

Home’s chief executive Dave Moutrey said to the BBC: “We want everyone to feel welcome in our new Home, and that’s what this weekend is all about.

“In addition to the bold international contemporary art, theatre and film for which we’re known, the launch will see a whole host of activities for all the family take over our new spaces and the surrounding streets.

“It’ll be five-day celebration that’s fun, informal and friendly.”
