How it feels to achieve a business objective

This week, our business, the EmptyLemon job board reached a major milestone of 500,000 registered candidates. For a niche, direct employer job board currently operating in the UK, this is fantastic news. We have made huge progress towards a one of our business objectives: building a candidate pool.

With the rise of the internal recruiter during the last recession, building a candidate pool of passive candidates, those candidates who are not actively looking for work, but could be easily persuaded to change employers, became important for job boards. Internal recruiters had previously used recruitment agents to fulfil this role.

EmptyLemon set out major differentiation from the start, by only permitting direct employers to advertise their jobs and not allowing recruitment agencies to advertise. The objective is to delivering an improved candidate experience by giving direct engagement with employers; and to give value added service to employers by enabling the company branding to stand out more than on a traditional job board. Achieving a pool of over half a million candidates adds an even more compelling reason for employers to use us.

Yes it feels great to achieve a major milestone, but we must not stop there, we must look to the future. Investing in the future with parsing and matching software, ensuring the job board is mobile friendly, hiring new team members to grow the business and further expanding the candidate pool. It seems like a never ending task, but we need to do what it takes to be a successful job board.
