Heating specialists’ eco-friendly initiative takes roots

Northallerton based heating and plumbing specialist, HCS Mechanical Services, has invested £8,000 in a sapling planting scheme to offset its carbon footprint.

To date the business has planted 1,250 native broadleaf trees on sites across North Yorkshire and Scotland - and has committed to running the scheme until its last company vehicle that is powered by fossil fuels - is taken out of service.

The third generation family business, which is a champion of putting something back into the community, is also looking to branch out across sites in Lancashire and Cumbria, in addition to further sites in North Yorkshire and Scotland.

Richard Clarke, Managing Director of HCS Mechanical Services said: “As a business, we are keen to replace our fleet of service vehicles with ones that use zero carbon emitting fuels. However, due to our wide geographic reach, that target is several years away.

“This tree planting programme enables us to demonstrate our corporate social responsibility commitment and it would be good to see more companies launching similar schemes. The ‘win-win’ of the initiative is that regardless of whether your business is based in Yorkshire or South America - the positive global effect of planting sapling trees benefits everyone.”

Northallerton based HCS Mechanical provides private, commercial and industrial customers with a wide range of plumbing and heating services; including maintenance and installations, 24hr breakdown cover and landlord safety checks and certification.
