Leeds United embroiled in £5m legal claim from kit supplier Macron
Controversy seems to follow Leeds United everywhere as of late, and now the football club is hit with another financial blow from kit supplier Macron, who are claiming around £5m.
As reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, the club’s accounts for the the 2013/2014 season reveal that they are in a “contractual dispute” with Macron, which has supplied their kit since 2008.
The Italian sportswear brand claims £2.15m is “allegedly owed” to them, as well as damages of between £2.5m and £3.5m.
Macron made this claim in November 2014, but United’s accounts state a club solicitor “believes that it is unlikely that the claim will be successful.”
Leeds signed Macron to a six-year deal back in 2010, but as this is due to end next summer, the club are already looking for a new kit supplier for next season.
The accounts, which were released this morning, also show that the Championship football club lost £22.8m in the 12 months leading up to June 30, 2014, which meant they were handed a transfer embargo in January, after failing the Football League’s Financial Fair Play.
However, the club’s owner Massimo Cellino is remaining positive, as he said: “Creating financial sustainability will take 12 to 18 months from this report date.
“We have already achieved financial stability in the calendar year 2014.”
