NHS audit agency selects Egress Switch

MIAA uses Egress Switch as a single centralised solution to sharing confidential data securely.

London – 16.04.2015 - Egress Software Technologies today announced the use of their flagship encryption platform, Egress Switch, by MIAA. Switch helps MIAA, one of the largest providers of internal and advisory services to the NHS, to share sensitive information securely both internally within the organisation and with approved external contacts, thereby aiding compliance with data protection legislation.Tony Cobain, Assistant Director – Informatics & Infrastructure at MIAA, explains: “MIAA works to evaluate and, where necessary, improve governance and service delivery within the NHS. This relies heavily on the exchange of information, often of a sensitive nature, between MIAA and the organisations we work alongside. In addition, we were also aware not only of the potential for this sensitive information to be shared between MIAA departments, but also of the amount of sensitive data that our employees generate through business processes, such as payroll.”

Cobain continues: “In choosing an encryption solution we were mindful of the need to balance robust security with ease of use for both our own staff and our clients, and that it would allow our staff to send data securely outside of NHS boundaries. In addition, we required functionality to allow our users to have control over the information they share and how it is used, and if necessary, restrict access for one or more users once the information has been sent.

“We were also aware that, as an audit organisation, we need to not only promote the need for encryption, but also demonstrate that we apply the principle ourselves. Having trialled a number of solutions we chose Switch as it provided all of the functionality that we required along with ease of use. It was the perfect solution.

“There is more to an effective implementation than the technical solution, however, and the support that we received from Egress throughout was, and continues to be, excellent.”

The final project was jointly delivered to MIAA by Egress and leading security and infrastructure services partner Sapphire.
