Entrepreneur relieves a prickly issue for sun worshippers
For millions, the thought of lying on a beach soaking up the sun this summer is the perfect holiday but for thousands more with skin conditions, such as prickly heat, eczema or polymorphic light eruption (PLE), even limited exposure can cause the onset of painful, itchy rashes.
Help is at hand for sufferers thanks to a unique South African sun protection formula, which is now available to UK consumers via Stevenage-based business, Techniblock Suncare.
Delivered in an ethanol-based aerosol spray, Techniblock is the result of years of painstaking research and development into enhanced ultra-violet (UVA/UVB) sunscreen performance. Unlike ‘heavyweight’ sunscreens that include oils or emulsifiers, which take time to absorb, Techniblock has neither. Its unique, broad-spectrum formula contains an ethanol propellant, delivered as a clear, non-greasy CFC-free spray that’s instantly absorbed without clogging pores. As the ethanol evaporates on contact, the UVA and UVB protectants get to work shielding the skin immediately.
A single, liberal application of Techniblock Sun Spray SPF50+ prior to sun exposure, provides over 6 hours of protection, so there’s no need for constant top ups. It’s also water resistant, hypo allergenic and fragrance-free and can be used on hair. The spray has an indefinite shelf life, meaning no use by date and conforms to the EU sun protection standard, COLIPA.
A surge in overseas holiday bookings in the first two months of 2015, up by as much as 50% compared with last year, has prompted Techniblock Suncare, which is the exclusive UK distributor of Techniblock, to warn travellers of the dangers of sunburn. Cancer Research UK statistics show that 13,000 people develop malignant melanoma each year, compared with around 1,800 in the mid-1970s. Malignant melanoma is now the fifth most common cancer, with more than 2,000 dying from it each year.
Commented Tracey Parry, owner of Techniblock Suncare:
“Whatever our skin type, use of high protection factor sunscreen and limited exposure is imperative to avoid burning, even on cloudy days during summer. For many, creams and lotions cause irritation and inflame prickly heat, so the beauty of Techniblock is its ethanol delivery that avoids clogging skin pores. It really is a one-hit wonder for your beach bag, as well as for those participating in outdoor activities.”
