Laing O’Rourke secures £40m concrete contract on North East London development

Engineering firm Laing O’Rourke has secured the £40m concrete package on Berkeley’s 250 City Road towers

The group’s Expanded arm will work on the project, which is at 250 City Road, and was designed by Foster + Partners, according to building.co.uk.

City Forum comprises 930 homes in two towers at 42-stories and 36-stories high, and will form part of a new cluster of high-rise residential and mixed-use towers on the edge of London and the borough of Islington.

Planning permission for the project was granted Islington Council in April 2014 under the condition it started within two years of gaining consent for the scheme.

Piers Clanford, managing director at Berkeley Homes for north east London, said the Laing O’Rourke division would construct the basement and frame for the first phase of their landmark development, 250 City Road, London, EC1. He said: “Laing O’Rouke started work on site in March 2015 and are due to complete in December 2017.

“Their contract includes the substructure and superstructure concrete frame package for Phase 1 which comprises of the construction of the basement, podium slab, 5 low rise blocks and the tallest building on the development, a 42-storey tower.”
