Rebecca and Terence Wensley outside Tower Vue Café, York

Returning expats acquire tourist-favourite York café

A returning expat couple are back in business as they have taken over a café that offers spectacular views of York’s famous Clifford’s Tower.

Langleys Solicitors, which has offices in York, assisted Terence and Rebecca Wensley take on the former Dickinson’s Café.

The duo, who were originally from Skipton-on-Swale, near Thirsk, lived in France for the past 18 years where they ran a bed and breakfast and building renovation business.

After a lengthy search to find the location for their desired catering premises, the couple took over the 25-seater café and renamed it Tower Vue Café, to highlight their French influence.

A popular tourist stop, as well as for people using the nearby courts, the café offers hot drinks, sandwiches, paninis and jacket potatoes. However, the new owners have also introduced homemade soup and salads as well as a special blend from York Coffee Emporium.

The Wensleys plan to expand the business by offering sandwiches-to-order and buffets for corporate customers.

Rebecca said: “We had not been to York for a long time and we were surprised at how pleasant and busy it was. The café’s location is second to none. We love the view.

“Our aim is to provide friendly service and somewhere that people can sit quietly and comfortably.”

James Bradley, a solicitor in the commercial property team at Langleys, said: “We were pleased to help Terence and Rebecca secure this fantastic location in the heart of York and wish them every success as they develop the café further.”
