TSG joins the fight for every heartbeat

IT experts Technology Services Group (TSG) have found a place at the heart of the community by launching a partnership with the British Heart Foundation (BHF) in the fight against heart disease.

Following an internal selection process among staff, TSG has chosen to support the BHF and the life-saving research it funds as it’s national charity for the next three years.

With over 400 staff based at offices across the UK, the company hope to raise as much as possible for the charity while also educating colleagues about the steps taken to prolong their own lives and how to save others.

TSG chief executive David Stonehouse said: “We’re delighted to help such a great cause in the British Heart Foundation as well as using their resources to help provide our staff with a healthy and great place to work.”

Dr Helen Phillips, a researcher from the Institute of Genetic Medicine at Newcastle University, who attended the launch, added: “The money that TSG raise for the BHF will assist our research into the causes of congenital heart defects and what we can do to prevent it. Whilst people’s lifestyles and behaviours can affect their health there are still many non-environmental factors that cause heart disease to develop.”

Coronary heart disease is the UK’s single biggest killer and the BHF pioneers research to transform the lives of people living with heart and circulatory conditions, work that is central to the discoveries of vital treatments that are changing the fight against heart disease.

TSG has invested in a set of CPR training kits, including how to successfully perform CPR, which will be circulated among colleagues and their families at each of its offices. An accompanying DVD means staff can teach themselves, with the aid of an inflatable mannequin.

Staff will also be encouraged to get behind BHF’s fundraising campaigns such as “Wear It. Beat It” and the autumn donation campaign “Bag it. Beat it”. Each office will also be developing a calendar of events to raise funds.

Dan McNally, BHF fundraising manager, added: “We were thrilled when we heard that TSG staff had voted us their chosen charity. Heart disease has touched us all in some way, so by raising money and awareness, their support will be vital to helping us beat heart disease.”

The launch follows TSG’s support for this year’s Westfield Health British Transplant Games being held in NewcastleGateshead in the summer. The British Heart Foundation is the main charity partner for the games.
