Vernacare shortlisted for UK healthcare business award
Vernacare’s success as an international supplier of infection prevention products has been recognised in the Medilink UK Healthcare Business Awards.
The company has reached the awards final and is shortlisted against six of the best UK medical products and life sciences businesses for the UK Export Achievement Award.
This follows Vernacare’s success as North West regional winner of Medilink’s international trade award category, which recognises outstanding performance in export.
Vernacare exports its hygienic disposable patient toileting and washing products to nearly 50 countries across every continent. The world renowned ‘Vernacare System’ of human waste management reduces the risk of healthcare acquired infections by providing a safer alternative to reusable bedpans, urinals and other products.
Emma Sheldon, Global Marketing Director for Vernacare, said: “We are incredibly proud to reach the finals of the prestigious Medilink Healthcare Business Awards. Our products are used by 94% of NHS trusts, but are gaining increasing loyalty in growing numbers of countries. The mission to prevent infection is critical for every nation, which is why our new international strategy is opening up so many market opportunities”.
The Medilink UK Awards, a nationwide competition spanning over 1,500 life sciences companies, will announce and celebrate its winners at a Gala Dinner on 29 April, alongside the UK’s largest Medical Device industry event – the Med-Tech Innovation Expo 2015.
Vernacare has also won recognition for its international success in the ‘Exported by Britain’ Campaign. The company was selected by David Crausby MP, who said: “The Exported by Britain campaign showcases the UK’s manufacturing talent. MPs have been invited to nominate successful global products from their constituencies and I am delighted to champion Vernacare”.
He continued: “I have chosen to nominate Vernacare’s innovative infection prevention products which are exported to 48 countries, including Sierra Leone, where they are helping to combat Ebola. Vernacare pioneered an innovative system of hygienic patient toileting and washing 50 years ago, which has become the gold standard of patient waste management across the globe. Its single-use bedpans, urinals and wash bowls are made from renewable natural fibre at their factory in the heart of Bolton. Once used, these containers are flushed safely away using their Vortex disposal machines – also designed and manufactured in Bolton”.
