Global IT company announces major expansion bringing new jobs to Sunderland
Saggezza, a Chicago headquartered software company specialising in helping clients make better use of their data to grow their businesses, has announced plans to create new North East jobs.
The global IT company, who chose Sunderland as its base in the UK last month, currently employs 16 people in the region but bosses have revealed that they plan to significantly add to their number and have already committed to taking a larger office space in Sunderland’s flagship technology hub, Sunderland Software Centre.
Socka Suppiah, chief operations officer of Saggezza, is in the city as part of a three-day visit to agree plans to develop the Sunderland office, which is the company’s first UK base outside London.
Mr Suppiah said: “Sunderland has proven to be a fantastic base for our business, and we hope that the early success we have seen here will continue with the ongoing expansion of the team over the next few years.
“Saggezza is a fast-growing company, and we really are delighted to be committing to the city. Sunderland Software Centre is a fantastic, state-of-the-art space for the business to develop and grow, and we were very clear that we could grow the business from here.”
The company hopes to meet prospective employees at a Software Jobs Fair event that has been organized by Sunderland City Council. The event takes place on Wednesday April 29 at Evolve Business Centre and Thursday April 30 at Sunderland Software Centre and will see more than 100 vacancies offered up by IT, software and technology employers from the city.
Dave Smith, chief executive of Sunderland City Council, said that Saggezza’s commitment to the city was a major boost for Sunderland and would create a large number of high value jobs long into the future.
He said: “Saggezza is a hugely successful business, and the fact that – of anywhere in the world – they have chosen Sunderland is a major coup for the city and a fantastic statement of just how much the management team believe in Sunderland, the North East and the people we have here.
“Saggezza’s commitment to create jobs here demonstrates that we have got it right in Sunderland – that the city offers a fantastic blend of support, infrastructure, skills and know-how to spur on the growth of businesses in technology and IT.
“That really is testament to the strong partnerships formed between us as a local authority, and the education sector, as well as the private sector and support sector. We’re delighted it is paying off.”
