Yorkshire chemical company shines amongst its national peers

A West Yorkshire based chemical manufacturer has been recognised as a star player by its industry contemporaries for its outstanding work with key stakeholders.

Airedale Chemical, which manufactures and distributes bulk chemicals from its headquarters in Keighley, has been shortlisted for the Chemical Industries Association (CIA) awards in the prestigious ‘reputation’ category.

The CIA Awards recognise companies demonstrating excellent performance in their chosen field and celebrates outstanding performance in the chemical industry.

The ‘reputation’ award is given in recognition of an organisation which has demonstrated excellence and innovation building and enhancing its own reputation and that of the wider chemical industry.

Airedale Chemical has been identified as demonstrating exceptional engagement and investment in what it recognises as its three main stakeholder groups: its customers, communities, and employees.

It has recently invested £500,000 to expand its fully-owned transport fleet, bringing in three new intermediate bulk container (IBC) vehicles to ensure flexibility, consistency and control over availability and costs, to meet customers’ requirements immediately and ultimately improve their bottom line.

The company even allows qualified customers supervised access to its laboratory facilities to get involved in tweaking and adapting their chemical recipes to suit their individual needs.

Airedale Chemical has also contributed heavily in its local community investing in the three areas of sport, education and healthy living. Organisations such as Ilkley RFC, Keighley and Cowling football club have gained from sponsorship contributions, while local schools have benefitted from their knowledge and expertise during a number of open days.

Airedale Chemical has also made efforts to support and nurture its staff, 95% of which have been recruited from the local area.

Funding and support has been given for one of its team and his wife to fulfil a life-long dream, to spend three months in South Africa helping to build a school and develop British teaching methodology to educate local children.

Daniel Marr, group marketing manager, comments: “We recognise that valuing our communities, whether that is the local school, our own team members or our customers, is just as important as taking care of profit margins. So, we have worked hard to put something back, and to have that recognised by such a major organisation as the CIA is truly rewarding”.

The award ceremony will take place at the Newcastle Gateshead Hilton Hotel on 18 June. Previous winners have included chemical giants such as GlaxoSmithKline.
