Liverpool University saves £4m by forming own construction company
Liverpool University will save £4m on its £100m a year capital spending programme because it has formed its own construction company to do a lot of the building in house.
The saving will be on its latest two halls of residence builds.
The university’s in-house special projects team was formed in 2013, when the university took on staff from failing contractor Ocon which was facing administration when it was building the university’s £63m Crowne Place halls.
The university owned company that was formed then completed the Crowne Place scheme and a £9.1m refurbishment of Melville Grove student halls.
The company will now build its planned £90m Greenbank Halls project, which gained planning permission earlier this month as well as a £25m teaching facility.
