Primary school set for Warrington’s Omega South
The Omega South mixed-use development area in Warrington, home to several logistics hubs and commercial enterprises, will be the site of a new primary school the borough council has confirmed.
The announcement comes as part of a major investment programme to expand primary schools in West Warrington.
The latest phase of this approach is the creation of a completely new, state of the art school building on the Omega South site, which will replace the current primary school buildings on Barrow Hall Lane.
The planning application for this development has been submitted, and subject to consultation and approval, construction on the new Barrow Hall Primary School will commence in the summer with a planned completion in time for the start of the new school year commencing in September 2016.
Planning application for up to 1,100 homes on the development is due to be submitted in the coming weeks.
The relocated school will remain as Barrow Hall Primary School, thus retaining all key elements of the existing successful school including: name, ethos, staff, logo and uniform.
Earlier phases of the programme are also running according to plan and include expansion through significant investment at St Phillip’s (Westbrook) CE Primary and Chapelford Village Primary.
In total 75 additional school places per year are being created in this phase which comprises an additional 15 places at Barrow Hall, 30 at St Phillip’s and 30 at Chapelford.
A further phase may be implemented if demand continues to rise which could potentially include expanding another two schools in the area.
By vacating the Barrow Hall Lane site traffic issues in the immediate area are also expected to be improved and safe routes to access the new school site are included in the council’s plans.
Traffic will also be further eased once the Junction 8 improvement works are completed and when Skyline Drive is fully open which will connect Junction 8 of the M22 with Omega Boulevard by the Royal Mail depot.
