Partnerships formed as conference is declared resounding success
Northumberland-based Eclipse Translations Limited has raised its glass to a leading industry conference hosted by the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI) at the Hilton Newcastle-Gateshead. The Alnwick-based company sponsored the pre-dinner reception, a unique opportunity to showcase the region to over 300 delegates from across the globe.
James Ramsbotham, chief executive, North East Chamber of Commerce (NECC), who opened the conference explained: “Exporting is vital to the UK economy and there is huge opportunity for international growth, so I believe translation and interpreting is immensely important to our economy.
“The North East’s exporting success is growing and with the NECC’s International Trade team working with businesses around the world, there’s a definite need for translation services.”
Eclipse Translations Ltd, which currently assists many North East companies with their export strategies agrees, commenting on the conference Managing Director, Stuart Carter, said: “In his address James Ramsbotham mentioned how vital exporting is to the economy of the North East and Eclipse is helping customers with this on a daily basis.
“Indeed, we have also assisted the NECC in terms of translating its thought provoking brand message’50 Reasons Why It Is Great To Do Business In The North East’ for a number of localised markets. We were very pleased that James used the 50 Reasons as part of his address to delegates, partly because of our involvement in the project but also as it gave a clear signal that the North East is a powerful exporter, verified by the fact that we are the only region in the UK to consistently deliver a trade surplus, which stands at around £3bn.
“We like to think that as a business we are playing our own part in this achievement. From our base in Northumberland, we work with a vast range of clients from the public and private sectors in the UK, Europe, Russia, Asia and the US. High quality translation and interpreting services are in great demand and we can only see this increasing. There were some excellent discussions on industry development throughout the conference. As a business, we support the work of the ITI in ensuring the maintenance of professional standards in the industry and encouraging translators to adopt the latest technologies used by ourselves.”
