Cornmill choir event clinches top industry award
CHRISTMAS has come early for the Cornmill Shopping Centre in Darlington after receiving a top UK award for its work on a festive choir event.
Cornmill’s Chorus – Sing to Win! saw community choir groups from the Darlington area battle it out in the centre to win £1,000. The event, which took place in November and December 2014, was designed to put the centre at the heart of the community and drive footfall during the centre’s Christmas late night Thursdays.
Cornmill’s Chorus was recently shortlisted in the Event category for a Purple Apple, the shopping centre world’s national industry awards, and on Thursday evening (07 May) was awarded a Purple Apple Merit at a glittering awards ceremony in London
The annual accolades, run by the British Council of Shopping Centres (BCSC), recognise and reward effective shopping and town centre marketing within the UK retail property sector.
Commenting on the award win, Susan Young, centre manager of the Cornmill Shopping Centre, said: “We are absolutely over the moon to receive a Purple Apple Merit for Cornmill’s Chorus. As the pinnacle awards platform for our industry, it really is an honour to secure such a high profile award and to be judged alongside some of the UK’s largest and most frequented shopping venues.
“The award is a true testament to the hard work of everyone involved in Cornmill’s Chorus and in particular the choirs who got involved and made it such a magical event. The event not only met but exceeded the objectives set out in the planning stages and we’re excited to be launching our second run of the competition very soon.”
The Cornmill Shopping Centre is home to over 40 fantastic stores including Next, HMV, WHSmith, Top Shop and Primark. For further information contact tel: 01325 369111, email: info@cornmillcentre.co.uk or visit the website: www.cornmillcentre.co.uk
