Newcastle video production company launch crowdfunding campaign to produce new film

Candle & Bell, a video production company based in the heart of Newcastle city centre, is set to produce a short film called A Six and Two Threes, selected as part of Creative England’s iShorts funding initiative.

Alongside the funding received from Creative England, the team are crowdfunding to raise additional funds to support the film.

A Six and Two Threes, written and directed by Andy Berriman, is the fourth short film to be produced by Candle & Bell.

Set entirely in Stockton on Tees, the film is about two young boys from different sides of the tracks, who meet when one of them goes in search of his father.

Of the company’s success at receiving the funding, Maria Caruana Galizia, producer at Candle & Bell said “We are immensely proud and excited to have the support of Creative England. The story is very close to our hearts and we’re really looking forward to bringing Stockton to the big screen.”

The team are looking forward to sharing the progress of the film over the course of the next few months too. “Crowdfunding isn’t just about raising money, it’s about engaging people and sharing the filmmaking experience them. We’re looking forward to giving people insight into all the hard work that goes into making a film and sharing the final result with them.”

Director Andy Berriman says “Being selected by iShorts is incredibly exciting - It being one of the only schemes of it’s kind that brings pride and pressure in equal measure, and it’s extra special for us that we get to make a film in a part of the country that is often overlooked.”

A Six and Two Threes is one of 19 films selected from over 350 applications. The iShorts scheme offers selected filmmakers editorial support, industry mentoring and networking opportunities, as well as bespoke training funded by Creative Skillset.

Candle & Bell are currently casting for the film and hope to film late July. People interested in contributing towards the crowd funding campaign should visit www.crowdfunder.co.uk/a-6-2-3s.
