Popular Southport fish and chip business expands following RBS funding

Funding from The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) has helped to support the expansion of fish and chip business Fylde Fish Bar, based in Southport.

The undisclosed funding has enabled husband and wife owners Jodie and Banico Zeniou to open a new takeaway in Birkdale, their second shop in the region. The pair’s first outlet, a 50 seater restaurant and takeaway located in Marshside on Fylde Road in Southport, opened almost six years ago.

Having recently been voted one of the UK’s top three independent fish and chip restaurants at the Seafish National Fish and Chip Awards and winning the award of best chippy in Southport, the business has enjoyed great popularity within the region.

RBS has supported the expansion with a fee-free loan, provided under the Government-backed Funding for Lending Scheme.

The scheme has been specifically designed to offer more support to SMEs by making borrowing more affordable. Under the scheme businesses can take advantage of loans with lower interest rates and no arrangement fees.

I am pleased that we have been able to support Jodie and Banico to expand the business and wish them all the best with the new shop.”

Jodie Zeniou, owner of Fylde Fish Bar said: “We are thrilled that our second fish and chip shop is now up and running. We originally opened Fylde Fish Bar almost six years ago and since then the business has proved to be very popular with local residents and has grown rapidly.

“Banico is a 3rd generation fish and chips shop owner and it has always been our aim to follow in his family’s footsteps and own a successful chain of chippies across the North West.

“The funding we have received from RBS has been excellent and has helped towards renovating the new shop.

“The support we have received from them has also been invaluable and it has been great to work alongside a team that are as passionate about our business and its future as we are.”
