Revealed: Designs for London’s controversial Garden Bridge project

Landscape designer Dan Pearson has released images of the proposed Garden Bridge in central London.

The Garden Bridge, which was given mayoral approval in December, will be home to more than 270 trees and 2,000 shrubs and climbing plants

The plans for the crossing, which could stretch between the South Bank and Temple tube station, have been questioned by campaigners who won the right to challenge Lambeth Council’s approval of the construction.

The judicial review of the matter will be heard next month.

Last month, Bouygues Joint Venture secured the contract to build the £175m bridge, which will have five distinct landscape areas and use more than 22,000 perennials, ferns and grasses and 64,000 bulbs.

Mr Pearson said: “The Garden Bridge will complement and continue this rich history of horticultural excellence in London.

“The planting will provide year-round colour and interest with spring blossom and flowering bulbs, high summer flowers, autumn colour and winter interest from evergreens, scented shrubs and bulbs.”
