Residential development plans unveiled for Holbeck Urban Village

Plans for a new residential development - Ironworks - in the Holbeck Urban Village [HUV] neighbourhood, have been revealed.

The proposed residential site, which will be located south of the city centre, was unveiled at a public consultation hosted by specialists in sustainable development, Igloo Regeneration.

The Ironworks scheme consists of 57 one and two bed apartments, 15 townhouses and 1,900sq ft of retail space, designed to showcase the area’s industrial heritage. The planned homes, designed in collaboration with Leeds-based Nick Brown Architects, have been created with Igloo’s sympathetic approach to regeneration.

Every home in the Ironwork scheme will be exposed to sufficient natural daylight and an undulating roofline that is orientated to optimise sunlight and the use of photovoltaic panels. The development will include high levels of private amenity space; in-set balconies, roof-top terraces, and hidden private raised gardens, as well as publicly accessible open spaces, including the ‘Wonderwood’ art park.

The homes, located within Leeds South Bank which is set for major redevelopment, will also take advantage of great connectivity to the city centre and to national transport routes via the new southern entrance to Leeds railway station which is due to open this year.

This will be the first residential scheme to include houses in the Urban Village for several years, which will join the already established 150 businesses and 7 independent food and drink venues.

Honor Massarella, director at Igloo, said: “The public consultation was well attended and the response to our designs were extremely positive. We had some great feedback at the event but this was by no means the end of the process: we’re still welcoming comments from people who live, work and enjoy spending leisure time in the local area. Our Marshall’s Mill and Round Foundry developments have helped to put Holbeck Urban Village firmly on the map for creative and digital businesses. The residential plans are the next vital piece in the jigsaw for Igloo, to further strengthen the community that has been established over the last decade.”
