Wax Lyrical in media spotlight
~~Wax Lyrical were in the media spotlight last month when the BBC Breakfast team arrived at the company’s factory in Cumbria for a morning of filming with business presenter, Steph McGovern. The coverage was part of BBC Breakfast’s pre-election coverage.
The visit came about after BBC producers contacted the home fragrance company to seek permission to film in their factory and interview the management team and members of staff as they sought to measure the mood of business leaders and workers five years on from the last election.
Steph interviewed managing director, Joanne Barber; owner, Mike Armstead as well as Wax Lyrical’s longest serving member of staff, Tracy Burr and lab technician Steve Husband.
Speaking about the opportunity to showcase Wax Lyrical on prime time national television, Joanne said, “As the UK’s largest home fragrance manufacturer we were pleased to be selected by the BBC for the programme. Our factory, which has recently received a one million pound investment, was an ideal backdrop for a feel good piece about manufacturing.
“Because the BBC were broadcasting live with us throughout the morning we were able to show off lots of machinery and they were able to interview and chat to many members of staff as well as Mike and I.
“The highlight came when we presented Steph with her very own Steph-branded Wax Lyrical candle. She and the crew went away with one each and we even had calls from members of the public who wished to order them.”
