Charity appoints new regional fundraising team

The ladies arm of a national charity has just appointed a new regional fundraising team, which is to be headed up by recently elected chair, Sophie Lacey.

The committee members also include Gurdeep Sidhu, Sarah Duncan, Philippa Clothier and Kathryn Dishman, who are all well known within the regional business community. Linda Hitman, who sits on the Lords Taverners National Council, is supporting the local committee in an advisory capacity.

Sophie, who works in business development at Esh Facilities, the property and facilities management arm of Esh Group, takes over the chair from Rozanna Head-Rapson, partner at law firm, McDaniel & Co, who stepped down in 2014 to take up a role in the judiciary.

With Sophie at the helm, the regional committee is now working on an exciting events programme and its first come back event is a Summer Quiz on Thursday, 18 June at As You Like It in Jesmond.

Commenting on her new role, Sophie said: “We made a great start with Rozanna and I am really excited to be taking over. With so many women now playing a key role in the local business community and in senior management positions, we are keen to take advantage of our connections and experience to host a number of charity events which will be entirely complementary to those of the Lord’s Taverners – however, I want to stress that our events are not just for ladies!

“We are discussing lots of ideas and have a team of eight signed up for the Great North Run. Along with bucket collections and a range of smaller events, it should be a lot of fun. Sport has a massive potential to encourage boys and girls of all abilities to get out, keep fit and be part of a team and I urge anyone who would like to get involved or wants to put a team together for the quiz, to contact me for more information.”

Jamie Graham, chair of the Lord’s Taverners in the region, added: “We are very pleased that the new committee of the Lady Taverners is now officially up and running and look forward to working with them in the very important cause of helping children who are disabled or disadvantaged so that they can more actively participate in sport.”

The Northumberland and Durham branch of the Lord’s Taverners has donated a massive £1.1million to projects in the area over the last 12 years including the distribution of youth cricket equipment bags, the provision of cricket coaching grants and specially adapted sports wheelchairs as well as funding for multi sensory rooms and minibuses.
