North East Business Flies Flag For Lindisfarne Return

North East manufacturer AA Flags, well-known for their high profile commissions, will see their latest work on display in the region next month when folk rock band Lindisfarne return to home turf for their Newcastle Racecourse gig.

Based in Consett, County Durham, AA Flags was commissioned to create the 5 metre by 4.5 metre stage backdrop, incorporating Lindisfarne’s tour logo, for the band’s latest string of UK-wide performances which include their gig at the Gosforth Park racecourse on 06 June.

Specialising in flags, backdrops and other bespoke fabric products, this is the latest high profile commission for the twelve-strong company which has also been responsible for work including lining The Mall in London with flags to mark the Queen’s Jubilee and creating the famous 30ft ‘Shearer shirt’ which was draped over the Angel of the North in 1998 to mark Newcastle United’s Wembley appearance.

The backdrop was created using the applique technique to transfer the white tour logo into large format black fabric. The team responsible for creating the work, including AA Flags founder and Lindisfarne fan Mandy Scott, are looking forward to seeing the backdrop in-situ when they attend the racecourse concert themselves next month.

Mandy Scott, who set up the company in 1992 and received a NatWest everywoman Award for her success as a female entrepreneur in 2003, said: “Being a North East company ourselves, as well as fans of the band, we were privileged to create this piece for Lindisfarne’s latest tour. We’re really looking forward to the band’s gig at Newcastle Racecourse and to seeing our work on display.”

The performance on the 06 June at Gosforth Park will be the first North East performance for the new Lindisfarne line-up after founding member Rod Clements re-joined the band following Ray Jackson’s retirement. He will perform alongside long-time members Dave Hull-Denholm, Steve Daggett, Charlie Harcourt, Ian Thomson and former Roxy Music drummer Paul Thomson.

Fans can expect to hear a range of the band’s renowned hits on the night including Meet Me On The Corner, Run For Home, Lady Eleanor, We Can Swing Together and Fog On The Tyne.

Tickets for the June 06 raceday followed by the Lindisfarne concert are priced at £30 for the Premier enclosure and £20 for Grandstand and can be purchased by contacting Newcastle Racecourse on 0191 236 2020 or by visiting www.newcastle-racecourse.co.uk.
