Scarborough leisure development plans include 2,000-capacity football stadium
Scarborough Borough Council have received plans for a new football stadium and swimming pool, which have already bene approved by council officers.
As reported by the BBC, the proposed leisure site will feature a 2,000-capacity ground on the Weaponness car park that will become the new home of Scarborough Athletic Football Club
The site of town’s former football stadium on Seamer Road is being sold to fund the new leisure scheme.
Councillors are due to consider the plans on 28th May.
As well as the stadium, the development would include a 25m swimming pool, sports hall, squash courts and dance studio.
The seaside town’s old football ground, the McCain Stadium, was demolished sometime after Scarborough FC went out of business in 2007. .
Scarborough Athletic Football Club was formed in 2007 but plays its fixtures at a ground in Bridlington about 17 miles (27 km) away.
