Short Richardson & Forth look to the future

Newcastle solicitors Short Richardson & Forth LLP are striving to continue the growth of the firm with the appointment of a new trainee solicitor.

A graduate of Southampton University, new trainee Ian MacGilp already has more than two years’ experience as a paralegal with firms in Glasgow and central London. “My experience has been in high-volume litigation cases so far, but I’m looking forward to gaining a much broader legal experience with SRF.”

Assigned for the next six months with SRF’s Head of Commercial Property, Paul Earnshaw, Ian is already involved in a wide variety of cases that highlight the diversity of SRF’s expertise. “Whether it’s drafting commercial leases in Newcastle, investigating rights of access for major restaurant outlets in Surrey, or researching the law relating to group company structures, I have been totally immersed in the work of the firm from day one, and it’s fantastic.”

“As most law students will tell you, it can be difficult to tell firms apart when applying for a training contract, but as soon as I arrived at SRF’s first assessment centre, it was obvious how much I would enjoy working here.”

At the heart of SRF’s recent success is a strong team ethic in all areas of their business. This was illustrated most recently when SRF sent a team of eight runners, including Ian, to participate in the ‘Endurun 2015’ relay race, a gruelling 24-hour charity endurance event in which teams aim to complete as many laps of a 10km course as possible. “I spoke a lot about my enjoyment of running in my final interview, and it wasn’t long before Andrew Swan, our head of Regulation and Financial Crime, drafted me into the Endurun team. Our teamwork was outstanding, and my colleagues definitely helped to drive me on when I finished my 40km. In total our team ran a distance equivalent to Newcastle to Sheffield!” Short Richardson & Forth have now raised well over £2,500 for North of England Children’s Cancer Research.
