Wates transforms Scout Group headquarters in Coventry

A local scout group supporting the physical, mental and spiritual development of young people in Coventry is set to benefit from new and improved facilities thanks to local contractor, Wates Construction.

The 3rd Coventry Scout Group headquarters have been given a huge make over both inside and out by the Wates Construction team currently building the new Richard Lee Primary School in Wyken.

The team donated time as part of the company’s annual Community Day, which sees 2,000 employees nationwide donate a day of their time to make a tangible difference to the communities in which they are working. This year, local projects across the UK received over 8,000 hours of Wates’ time.

Boasting a new allotment area, landscaped gardens, floor to ceiling internal redecoration as well as a new driveway, the refurbished building and grounds will now enable the 85-year-old Scout Group to extend its membership base and offer a wider range of activities from its headquarters on Bromleigh Drive. Building materials were donated by Jewson.

Richard Scarrott, Business Unit Director of Wates Construction Midlands, said: “Our annual Community Day was the perfect opportunity for us to work with local organisations like the 3rd Coventry Scout Group to ensure our presence in Coventry leaves a lasting social impact. Our work to transform their headquarters in Wyken will enable them to support more young people and offer a greater range of activities, helping them to foster valuable life skills in the process.”

Wates Construction commenced work on Richard Lee Primary School in April last year. The school was the final within the £36m Midlands batch of the Priority Schools Building Programme (PSBP) to begin and construction of phase one is set to be completed in the summer.
