Wates transforms wildlife classroom following fire

Working with the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, Wates carried out internal decoration and installed insulation, plasterboard and skirting boards in order to make the new classroom fully operational.

The Trust began to re-build the replacement classroom following the fire and have subsequently enlisted the help of Wates to fast track completion to a higher standard than previously thought possible.

Taking a reprieve from redeveloping Sneinton Market for Nottingham City Council, Wates donated time and resources to complete the work as part of the company’s annual Community Day initiative. This sees 2,000 employees nationwide donate a day of their time to support local groups, schools and projects and make a tangible difference to the communities where they work. Projects across the UK received over 8,000 hours of Wates’ time this year.

Richard Scarrott, Business Unit Director of Wates Construction Midlands, commented: “This was such a rewarding project for us to support as part of our annual Community Day initiative. The observation classroom is an incredibly valuable educational tool for local people and our work has enabled the Wildlife Trust to bring the facility back into use and therefore preserve the nature reserve for future generations. I am thrilled our redevelopment of Sneinton Market continues to provide us with opportunities to leave a lasting social legacy in the local area.”

Chris Kennedy, Southern Reserves Officer, Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, added: “We’re extremely grateful to Wates for enabling us to complete the new observation classroom at Farndon Willow Holt and open it to visitors. The team clearly place a great deal of importance on supporting local community projects and this is clearly evidenced by the time and materials they dedicated to carrying out this work.”
