York developer partners with Malmaison Hotel du Vin to deliver 48 bed boutique

S Harrison Developments Ltd, a Yorkshire property development company, will now deliver a new 48 bed boutique hotel and bistro in Stratford-on-Avon after signing an agreement with Malmaison Hotel du Vin and Stratford Town Trust.

The £8m scheme will consist of the restoration, conversion and extension of two listed Georgian buildings currently owned by the Town Trust, which will help rejuvenate the Rother Street area of the historic town.

The York-based property developer has been in talks with Stratford Town Trust and Malmaison Hotel du Vin, which already has hotels in Leeds, York and Harrogate, over the last year.

The deal is just the latest in S Harrison’s growing portfolio of development schemes, with others including the completion of a £12m mixed use development in Lichfield and a £23m student accommodation and retail development in Edinburgh.

In Yorkshire alone, S Harrison has been involved with a number of high profile schemes, including the redevelopment of waterfront properties and the £32m development to deliver new headquarters for City of York Council in the Grade II* listed West Offices complex.

Last year, S Harrison also won planning approval for a £40m housing and care home scheme in Whitby.

For the new scheme, S Harrison will be tasked with managing the design, planning and delivery process.

David Clancy, S Harrison’s director, said: “We have an excellent delivery track record of successfully regenerating older buildings in sensitive locations and we are delighted at the prospect of working with Malmaison Hotel du Vin and the Town Trust on this exciting development.”

The two Georgian houses will be fully refurbished and extended, subject to planning consent, enhancing many of the period features and retaining the original frontage and will operate under the Hotel du Vin brand.

If planning consent is obtained, the hotel will likely open by the end of 2016, creating jobs for at least 60 people. Among the new facilities at the hotel will include meeting and private dining rooms, a bistro and a separate banqueting room with the capacity to seat 80 diners.

Paul Roberts, CEO of Malmaison Hotel du Vin, said: “We are extremely excited about opening Hotel du Vin in the centre of Stratford-upon-Avon. The hotel’s lifestyle brand is a perfect fit for those attracted to the stunning and thought-provoking Shakespearean sites that make Stratford-upon-Avon such a global destination. This development represents Malmaison Hotel du Vin’s significant growth prospects and commitment to deliver exceptional customers experience in stunning surroundings.”
