This week’s regional highlights: Dynamo ‘15, Morrisons sales growth, Cheshire jobs and England 2022

This week in the North East, we saw a whole of host of keynote speakers announced for this year Dynamo 15 conference, which is aimed at showcasing and celebrating the strength, breadth and vitality of North East businesses in the sector.

University of Sunderland’s St Peter’s Campus, about 200 delegates have already signed up for the event, which will feature speeches and seminars from the likes of Stephen Kelly, Chief Executive Officer of The Sage Group, plc; Dean Benson, Chief Executive Officer of Visualsoft and Stephen Guss, General Manager at Nissan.

In Yorkshire, Morrisons saw its first sales growth since 2013. The struggling retailer, which is headquartered in Bradford, is the only supermarket among the big four that has seen sales growth over the last twelve weeks, according to latest figures by Kantar Worldpanel. Breathing a sigh of relief, newly appointed Chief Executive, David Potts noted that the 0.1% sales growth reaffirms his belief in the ongoing restructuring plan.

In the North West, B&M announced the creation of 500 jobs at its Cheshire warehouse. The budget retailer has opened 55 stores in the last year, and has seen significant growth since its IPO in 2014.

The city of London has been poised to take charge of the 2022 World Cup, following the announcement of an enquiry into Fifa’s alleged bribery scandal. In his column in the Daily Telegraph, Boris Johnson declared London as “ready” to take the helm should Qatar lose the privilege of hosting the world’s biggest sporting event in 2022.
