Specialist Recruiter Sellick Partnership Launches Legal Sector eBook

Manchester-based recruitment specialist Sellick Partnership has launched a new eBook, ’The Legal Sector - Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow’, providing a detailed report on how the legal sector has changed in the past three decades, and how it will continue to change in the future.

To mark its tenth year in legal recruitment, Sellick Partnership is taking lawyers back in time to explore the events that changed the legal landscape in the 1990s, 2000s and the present day. The publication reflects the constantly evolving nature of the industry, and the impact that a single event can have on the profession for years to come.

Throughout the eBook, the company talks to practising solicitors for a personal account of their experiences and how the legal sector has changed over the years.

Hannah Cottam, Director at Sellick Partnership, commented: “To celebrate Sellick Partnership’s tenth anniversary in the legal sector, we wanted to take solicitors back in time, exploring what life was like in the past, and looking ahead to the future. With this eBook, we provide an authoritative and personal insight into how it felt to be a solicitor in the 1990s, and we were thrilled with the response among those professionals who wanted to contribute and reflect on their career.

“The legal sector has the potential to change within a matter of seconds, as one significant event can impact the industry forever. Our objective was to explore just how much the sector - and the wider world - has been affected by global events, current affairs and landmark cases in a relatively short space of time.”

In the eBook, Sellick Partnership and its contributors remember the 1990s including the ground-breaking White v White case, with a spotlight on adultery and miscarriages of justice. Then, Sellick Partnership delves into the impact of technology in the financial crisis and terrorism, to name but a few events that had a huge influence on the sector.

The final chapters bring readers up to the present day and beyond, looking at the state of play since 2010 and predicting what the future holds for the legal sector and the role of solicitors.

Lisa Quigley, private practice solicitor specialising in property law, is one of many practising solicitors to offer her opinions on how the sector may change between now and 2020:

“In respect of training requirements I think the biggest change will be a move from classroom-based learning/training to ‘on the job’ training. I think there will be an increase in vocational pathways to a career as a lawyer,” she commented.
