Coda apartment project retains ‘50s style

WORK has begun on the conversion of one of Sheffield city’s centre’s best know office block into apartments.

Bell’s Court, in Bell’s Square, off Trippet Lane, is a 1950s building that was most recently used as a solicitor’s office.

The new proposals from the design team at award winning Coda Studios will see the building extended with a new penthouse level and transformed into a luxury apartment complex based around a white rendered ‘Mediterranean Style’ central courtyard.

“A lot of people might have imagined that the easiest thing to do would be to clear the site and start afresh but at Coda we believe firmly in saving our city’s architectural heritage wherever possible,” said Managing Director David Cross.

“Bell’s Court is a fine example of 1950s design and we were extremely keen to retain as much of the original development as possible while at the same time bringing it very much into the 21st century through a careful programme of extension and refurbishment.

“The extra floor will be finished in coloured aluminium cladding cladding that will contrast the existing building perfectly and make it a talking point for the future.

“The project will create 29 apartments featuring some classic 1950s styled interiors in an area that is proving increasingly popular for residential use.

“And proof of its popularity is that even as the project gets under way, half of the apartments have already been sold.”
