McCarthy’s opens £2m Wakefield city centre facility
Following a £2m investment and renovation, a new self storage facility in Wakefield city centre is now open.
The former Magnet kitchen showroom and John Peters furniture store on Kirkgate was bought by McCarthy’s Removals and Storage in January 2015
The newly formed McCarthy’s Storage World Wakefield has created four new jobs.
Wakefield is McCarthy’s third and largest self storage centre in Yorkshire. At 40,000 sq ft and spread across two floors, the facility provides over 400 storage units of varied sizes and dimensions.
Furthermore, the facility also offers 24-hour secure access to warehouse units, as well as drive-up units, which allow direct vehicle access for loading and unloading purposes.
In addition to the storage units, there is an onsite shop offering boxes, padlocks, tape, bubble-wrap and much more.
Established 45 years ago, the family-owned business already has self storage facilities in Leeds and Harrogate. The firm also offers residential and commercial removal services, and a range of business services including archived storage and confidential document shredding.
Mike McCarthy, managing director of McCarthy’s Removals and Storage, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have opened the doors of our new self storage centre in Wakefield. Anyone who knows the area will know the building in Kirkgate where we’re based, as it’s on the main road into the city. It’s easily accessible in the car, with ample parking, or by foot from the city centre.
“We had been looking for the right premises in Wakefield for some time. We felt the city needed cost-effective, flexible storage facilities, and also the service complements the removals side of our business, for which we already have a strong customer base in the area.”
The firm is currently offering a ‘four weeks free’ deal for new customers who sign up for two months of storage.
Mike McCarthy added: “We pride ourselves on the flexibility of our offering – we appreciate everyone’s need for storage is based on a different situation. Maybe they’re downsizing, or decluttering, or need a short term solution to a delay in the chain when moving house. Often we cater for businesses too, ranging from large organisations storing files, stock or equipment off site, to smaller enterprises. In recent years, with the sharp increase in the number of internet-based businesses, our storage has allowed entrepreneurs to expand out of the spare bedroom, and keep stock and equipment at our units. It’s a much more cost-effective alternative to having to rent office or retail space as all business rates, rent and utilities are included.”
