Leeds-based heating and bathroom retailer sees significant growth after showroom move
After moving premises in May 2014, a Leeds-based heating and bathroom retailer has experienced its most successful financial year with turnover growing by a third.
BMF, which has been based in the city for more than 20 years, has quadrupled the size of its headquarters since moving into what was previously a TV recording studio on Meanwood Road from Moortown last year.
The 4,000 sq ft premises is now a showroom for for luxury bathrooms, along with a wide range of stoves, fires and renewable energy solutions. The extra space will also allow BMF to begin designing and installing kitchens from the Summer, for the first time.
Since the move, the business has seen significant growth. as well as a 38% increase in turnover, BMF has also hired six new members of staff - doubling the number of employees.
Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership’s (LEP) initially provided a grant to help the business execute the move and create new jobs.
Roger Marsh, chair of the LEP, said: “This LEP grant has enabled a business in one of the region’s key sectors to realise their growth potential and create new jobs. I am particularly pleased to see the business increasing their outputs and attract new customers as a result of the move and I hope this growth continues for the benefit of the region’s economy.”
Paul Freeman, co owner of BMF, added: “Taking on a building four times the size, and the related costs, is obviously a risk for any business, but it’s definitely one which has paid off! We have always been very confident with our positioning, and it was clear we had outgrown our previous premises. With the additional space, we have been able to work with and showcase many more products and ranges. In fact we now work with an additional six major brands, and in several cases we are the sole supplier in the region. It will also allow us to branch out into kitchens, which is something we’ve been looking to do for some time.”
